Person-Centered Therapy
Carl Rogers’ person-client centered therapy is based on his assumption that people have a “self-actualizing tendency” that motivates and guides them toward positive healthy growth. For Carl Rogers, self-actualization is “ is evident in all organic and human life, the tendency to expand, develop, mature, express and activate all the capacities of the human organism.” He sees self-actualization as the motivation for self -growth and development.
Goal
The goal for the therapist is to provide a safe therapeutic environment of sharing, trust, and openness and for the client to develop a more integrated and independent self, improve the client’s skills and ability to cope with future problems and build a stronger sense of self.
