Alfred Adler’s Individual Psychology
Adler agreed that all behavior is purposeful but emphasized a person’s behavior as being largely motivated by person’s future goals rather than determined by past events. Adler focused on an individual’s unique set of motives, traits, values and interests and believed that any individual can be fully understood only by seeing with his or her eyes and listening with his or her ears while studying his/her personality through an intensive investigation.
Goal
Adlerian therapists focus on establishing a collaborative relationship with the client to assist the client in identifying and understanding his or her life style and its consequences in order to reorient the client’s beliefs and goals compatible to a more adaptive life style.
